Every entrepreneur needs a mentor and accountability — regardless of where you are in your journey. You’re never too experienced, too old, or too knowledgeable. There’s always more to learn!

Finding a mentor to be accountable to is essential to your success. But when it comes to finding a mentor, it’s important not to think too narrowly.

Mentoring takes many different forms. It can be done face-to-face, through books, or online. Your mentor doesn’t have to be a partner either. It can be anyone you respect and can learn from.

Mentoring has many facets, and I hope to inspire you to get out there and share your knowledge with your audience…and learn from each other, too!

Throughout my career, I’ve worked for companies that supported and encouraged my individual professional development. And I’ve worked for companies that did not.

I was always grateful for those who provided financial support for my training and encouraged me to pursue various opportunities, but I never expected it. I viewed my career and my development as my responsibility alone. I approach mentoring the same way.

MENTORS ARE LITERALLY EVERYWHERE

I’ve had mentors at the office, professional associations, and at church. I’ve found mentors online through their books, blogs, podcasts, and social media sites.

I’ve had male and female mentors, one-time mentors, and ongoing mentors. I’ve had mentors who are two and three times my age, as well as people half my age.

CEOs and interns alike have mentored me. Some I know personally, others I’ve connected with virtually. Yet, despite their diversity, each of these mentors has advised, trained, or supported me.

I’ve worked with success and business coaches to help me in specific areas of my business development. There is certainly immense value in an organized approach to mentoring.

But to only view it in terms of a formal relationship significantly limits your options. There may be dozens of other people who can contribute to your development.

ACCOUNTABILITY MENTORING IS A MINDSET

Much like networking, it’s how you think; it’s not something you DO.

When you approach your interactions from the perspective of “what can I learn from this person?” you’ll find mentors everywhere.

And when you take the attitude of “what can I share to help this person?” you’ll discover that you can impact others by sharing your experience and advice.

When it comes to mentoring, nobody has all the answers. But we can all add to our own knowledge and share what we do know with others. Therefore, we all need mentors. And it’s why we can all be mentors.

How to Be an Accountability Mentor

  • Make a conscious daily effort to support someone in your life by sharing your specific experience and skills.
  • Share links, resources, or specific timesaving tips you’ve come across on your social media networks.
  • Type up the notes from a recent training session you attended and share it with others who couldn’t attend.
  • Join a Facebook or LinkedIn Group to share ideas and answer questions.
  • Call a connection and invite them to join you for a cup of coffee or a Zoom call. Often, initiating contact with people, and asking simple questions about how they are doing, can open doors for additional conversation and lead to mentoring relationships.

How to Find an Accountability Mentor

  • Make a list of all the people you admire, trust, or would like to learn from.
  • Identify at least one way you can interact with each of them.
  • If it’s someone you don’t interact with daily, try reading their book, subscribing to their blog posts, or connecting with them on social media.
  • If it is someone you see regularly, you can invite them for a cup of coffee, send an email, or a handwritten note, or schedule a phone call.
  • Join a membership or mastermind with a group of entrepreneurs and small businesses who are working to build their businesses. You will find support, encouragement, and accountability to help you on your journey.

There’s a lot of free information online for entrepreneurs and small businesses…

But do you ever wish that, instead of digging through random articles, you could spend time with an actual expert and ask them all your questions? And have someone to guide you step by step?

That’s what I could have used when I first started out!

If you’re an entrepreneur, coach, consultant, small business, or online marketer, you’re going to need some encouragement and accountability to take your business to the next level.

RUNNING AND GROWING A BUSINESS IS HARD WORK WHEN YOU’RE DOING IT ALONE

Building and running your own business can be lonely and challenging.

But you don’t have to do it alone.

And it doesn’t have to be so hard.

You can surround yourself with others who can support and advise you.

Did you know that entrepreneurs who work with a mentor are five times more likely to start a business than those who don’t have a mentor? 😲

And small business owners who receive mentoring report higher revenues and increased growth. 🤑

Part of my success in the business world has come because of having great mentors.

Whether they’re people I hired directly… or learned from indirectly, through their books and courses… I’ve found that having a mentor really helps shorten the learning curve to success.

It’s also important to have multiple perspectives on your biggest challenges. You might not have full-on mentorship engagements going with a handful of people, but it’s good, as a mentee, to have two to three other seasoned operators in your life to consult.

WINNING THE GAME OF BUSINESS is a training program and membership that will help you conquer your business, whether you are an entrepreneur, coach, consultant, or online marketer (or aspire to be). Heck, there are even some artists and musicians in the program!

When you register for WINNING THE GAME OF BUSINESS, you will:

  • Learn straight from the mouths of experts.
  • Have accountability from others just like you.
  • Gain access to never-before-seen resources.
  • Achieve big goals.
  • Grow your profits and revenue faster than ever before.
  • And so much more!

My friend and top business mentor, John Assaraf (who you probably know from “The Secret”)…calls it his: ”3-Step Business Acceleration System.

As one of his members said: “I feel like my business was a Volvo. And this turned it into a Ferrari.”

It has been carefully assembled with experts, resources, and a community to help you achieve your goals.

And for less than hiring an individual coach!

It doesn’t matter whether you’re already making money or you’re brand new.

“The right accountability partner helps YOU get leverage over YOU.” ~Darren Hardy
